The massive overnight manhunt for Singapore’s most wanted fugitive
Mas Selamat Kastari was still on this morning, more than 17 hours after the leader of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror group here, escaped from the Internal Security Department’s Detention Centre at Whitley Road at 4.05 pm yesterday.
Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng told Parliament earlier today that the JI militant escaped while he was brought to meet his family who was visiting him at the detention centre.
While being led to the room to meet his family, he asked to go to the toilet and gave his escorting officers the slip. The public was informed of his escape only about four hours later because the authorities said he posed no ‘imminent danger to the public’ at the time. The fugitive is said to walk with a limp and is not known to be armed.
QUESTION: How did someone who walks with a limp managed to escape?
I wonder if the escorts are really doing their job well. How could they let such a high profile wanted militant escape the detention center?! Moreoever he was limping!!
If this is a planned escape, I think he should be out of the country by now. But if this is just a opportunity and everything wasn’t planned, then I guess he is still somewhere in the jungle and not found yet.
The related authorities should look into what went wrong and improve or tightened the security. (They should also check whether Michael Scofield was the one who helped him with the escape. LOL! Just joking 
) This doesn’t reflect too well on the country’s security at all.
Moreover we just got the chance to host the Youth Olympics. Imagine what will happen if something really went wrong during the event. I don’t have to elaborate further. You should know the consequences we are going to face.
Let’s all hope the police will apprehend him as soon as possible, else it will be disastrous!
What we have learnt and should always remember are that the JI operatives are extremely dedicated and deadly disciples of Osama Bin Ladin. This particular JI operative was forged from the fires of Afghanistan and perhaps the most intelligent and cunning amongst the organisation. How else could he be their leader! That he has escaped is an indication of how dangerous JI operatives truly are. In my view, it is not the fault of our security forces. It is easy with the benefit of hindsight to criticise but bear in mind that even the CIA and the FBI could not prevent 9-11. Even the British M15 could not prevent the London bombings. We should rally behind and support our security forces and not undermine them.
